Who We Are

Being an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC) is a very humbling Ministry as the realization of offering the Body and Blood of Christ to the congregation brings an awareness of the closeness you feel in serving the Lord.

Bishop William Borders of the Diocese of Orlando (from 1968 – 1974) declared the first ever participation of the laity as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.  This ministry has grown tremendously through the years.  As the laity realized the honor and privilege that was now available to them, many have stepped forward to accept the Mantra.

We serve at all weekend Masses, including Daily Mass.

Training

Training includes:

  • A training workshop offered by the Diocese’s Office of Liturgy
  • Local training and walk-through at the parish

We need 15 Ministers at each Mass on Saturday and Sunday Masses, which means we need 45 people to serve each weekend.  So, we are always interested in welcoming more people to our EMHC team.

How You Can Get Involved

An EMHC must be in full communion with the Church having completed the Sacraments of Initiation.

To learn more about becoming an EMHC, please send an email with your contact information to our Parish Secretary at aarruda@stpatrickmtdora.org.
