These are notes from St. Patrick’s Saturday at 9 AM, 2/3/2024, St. Blaise service with Fr. Shiju presiding.
The Lectionary readings for Mass were not the alternate St. Blaise readings; Fr. Shiju selected the 2/3/2024 Saturday readings.
Fr. Shiju selected a “Mary” Mass from the Roman Missal, not the 2/3 St. Blaise alternate.
Fr. Shiju said this ‘first Saturday, before Bible Study’ Mass as usual, then after Mass announced he would bless the throats with an EMHC assisting.
Fr. Shiju requested an EHMC to assist prior to Mass start and that EMHC was given the “Blessing ” note to prepare.
Then two lines for blessings as normal for Communion. Fr. Shiju used the larger preformed candle, the EMHC used a smaller ‘X’ candle. Both candles were on the Altar side table prior to Mass start, along with their BLESSING note to read from.
Per Fr. Shiju, no further throat blessings are planned for the Saturday evening or Sunday Masses.
Blessing: “THROUGH THE INTERCESSION OF SAINT BLAISE, BISHOP AND MARTYR, MAY GOD DELIVER YOU FROM EVERY DISEASE OF THE THROAT AND FROM EVERY ILLNESS: IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.”
The three boxes of St. Blaise candles (two boxed larger candles and three sets of smaller candles and the blessing notes) are on the shelf in the sacristy.
