Lent and Easter

LENTEN SCHEDULE

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, there have been changes to our regularly scheduled observances for Holy Week.

To further clarify Bishop Noonan’s message, this is what will be happening and not happening at St. Patrick for Holy Week:
Holy Week Directives:
Palm Sunday
  1. Live-streaming of Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion is allowed.
  2. Palms may be blessed on Palm Sunday but they are to be distributed at a later date when public liturgies resume and people are allowed to gather.
  3. The Passion on Palm Sunday can be read by a deacon or priest alone.
Triduum Liturgies

Triduum liturgies will be broadcast throughout the diocese from St. James Cathedral only. Parishes are asked to refrain from local livestreams.

The Elect who are to be baptized will be received into the Church as soon as we are able to open our Churches for public celebration of Mass. (The Office of Liturgy will provide guidance and the proper ritual to use.)

I have given permission to use the oils from 2019 until priests are able to obtain the oils blessed at this year’s Chrism Mass.

Broadcasting of Holy Week liturgical celebrations from St. James Cathedral (web links will be forthcoming for you to share with your parishioners):
Chrism Mass, Wednesday, April 8, 6:30 p.m.
Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Thursday, April 9, 7:00 p.m.
Passion of Our Lord, Friday, April 10, 3:00 p.m.
At the Easter Vigil in the Holy Night of Easter, April 11, 8:00 p.m.
Resurrection of the Lord, The Mass of Easter Day, April 12, 12:30 p.m. aired on WFTV Ch. 9 (priests are able to livestream from parishes as you also deem appropriate)”

OUR BREASTPLATE PRAYER

I arise today
Through God's strength:
God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's eye to look before me, God's ear to hear me, God's word to speak for me, God's hand to guard me, God's way to lie before me, God's shield to protect me, God's host to save me

Christ to shield me today
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
