St. Patrick Music Ministries
For Singers and Instrumentalists
Soli Deo Gloria
To God Alone be the Glory
The Music Ministry of St. Patrick Church is first, to glorify God and to foster full and active participation of the Assembly. Each chant, each hymn, each piece of music, involves each person as a singer or a listener; most importantly, each is united in prayer in the presence of God and gathered around the Eucharistic banquet. Our singing together helps create a unity in the mass and a unity among all gathered.
To attain theses goals, musical groups have been established to help lead the assembly in song. If you have a desire to lead the assembly in song and have been given musical gifts, we encourage and welcome you to join the music ministry by being a part of one of the choirs, by being a cantor, or by playing an instrument.
Musical Opportunities at St. Patrick
(All choirs rehearse beginning the week following Labor Day and continue through the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ)
TRADITIONAL CHOIR: Sings at 11:30am Sunday Mass, Holy Days of Obligation, and special events like Light Up Mount Dora and choir festivals. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Everyone, grades 9 through adult, is invited to join. Some music reading skills are recommended but are not required.
VIGIL ENSEMBLE: Sings for the Vigil, 4:00 Mass. Rehearsal is at 2:30pm before the Mass or with the Traditional choir on Wednesdays.
ST. CECILIA Women’s CHOIR: Sings at 9:30 Sunday Mass on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of the month. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:15pm to 8:45pm and the choir is open to women who have a love for singing, especially high school and college students, through adults.
Boys and Girls Choir: Sings on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at the 9:30am Mass. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. All boys and girls in grades 2 to 8 are invited to join the choir. The Boys and Girls Choir participates in the annual Diocesan Children’s Choir Festival. Each child earns medals and prizes for their participation in the choir. The Boys and Girls receive good musical and liturgical training. A young-persons cantor ministry will be composed of selected members of the choir.
RESURRECTION CHOIR: Sings for funerals (usually at 9:00 am.) The choir is notified by e-mail and meets thirty minutes before the Mass. This is a very special ministry that helps to support grieving families and celebrates the life of their loved ones.
CANTORS: The ministry of Cantor is open to those singers who have been blessed with exceptional vocal talents and have a desire to lead the assembly in psalms and chants. The cantors of St. Patrick must audition with the Director of Music and attend an eight session Cantor Training seminar taught by Mr. Robinson.
INSTRUMENTALISTS: Rehearse with the choir that sings at the Mass for which you will be playing. Must have at least 2 years experience on your instrument. Band members welcome! No singing required. Instrumentalists will also be asked to do solo work as skills allow.
If you wish to join any choir please see or call Rick Robinson, Director of Music at 352-383-8556 x28 or Marybeth McCallum, Associate Director of Music at 352-383-8556 x26. We will be most happy to answer any questions and to direct you to your choir.
